The Death of Journalism at Loyola: A Masterclass in Institutional Decay – Shielding an ILLEGAL ALIEN MURDERER

By: Daiman Teer for The Simpleton Star

LOYOLA WOULD RATHER HAVE A DEAD STUDENT THAN TO ADMIT THAT AN ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT IS ILLEGAL.

The recent editor’s note from the Loyola Phoenix regarding the tragic death of 18-year-old Sheridan Gorman is more than a mere “style update.” It is a chilling manifesto of a generation of “journalists” who have completely abandoned the pursuit of objective truth in favor of ideological shielding. By apologizing for using the factually accurate term “illegal immigrant” to describe a suspect in a homicide, the staff of this paper has signaled that their “values” are more important than the reality of a dead student and the laws of the land.

Prioritizing the Suspect Over the Victim

The most “disgusting” aspect of this editorial retreat is the staggering lack of empathy for the victim. While an 18-year-old girl’s life has been snuffed out, the “punks” in the editor’s chair are worried about the “harm” caused by a linguistic choice regarding the person accused of killing her. To suggest that a factual description of a suspect’s legal status—a status that is inherently relevant to the broader national conversation on public safety—is “harmful” is a perversion of the craft. They are effectively prioritizing the feelings of a suspect over the memory of a murdered peer.

The Myth of “No Human is Illegal”

The paper’s defense—clinging to the slogan “no human’s existence is illegal”—is the peak of academic bubble-think. In the real world, “illegal” is a legal designation. It describes a status under federal law. A reporter’s job is to describe the world as it is, not as they wish it to be in a sociology seminar. When a newspaper decides that a person’s legal standing is “offensive” to report, they are no longer a newspaper; they are a public relations firm for a specific political agenda. They are hiding facts to protect a narrative, which is the definition of propaganda.

Unfit for the Profession

These students are paying tuition to learn a trade they are currently failing. Journalism is supposed to be “the first rough draft of history.” History is often ugly, and it is always filled with uncomfortable facts. If these editors cannot handle the word “illegal” when it is factually substantiated, they are psychologically and professionally unfit for the rigors of a real newsroom. No reputable outlet should ever hire an individual who views a style guide as a tool for social engineering rather than a framework for clarity.

A Betrayal of the Public Trust

The Loyola Phoenix has shown that it views the public not as a group of citizens to be informed, but as a group of children to be “protected” from the truth. By issuing this apology, they have admitted that they will prioritize “woke” sensitivity over the “Who, What, Where, and Why” of a crime. This isn’t just a mistake; it is professional malpractice. They have turned a campus tragedy into a platform for virtue signaling, and in doing so, they have spat on the grave of a student who deserved a paper that cared more about her life than the suspect’s sensibilities.

For the Loyola University piece, we need something that speaks to the weight of truth and the danger of misleading the public by hiding behind “refined” language.

Here is a verse, a reason, and a prayer tailored specifically for this takedown:

The Scripture

Proverbs 12:22: “Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who act faithfully are his delight.”

The Reason

In the context of journalism, “acting faithfully” means reporting the unvarnished truth without filtering it through a political lens. This verse serves as a reminder that when a publication prioritizes “woke” terminology over factual accuracy, they are moving away from the fundamental honesty required of their profession.

The Prayer

“Lord, give us the courage to speak the truth even when it is unpopular, and the wisdom to see through the word games of those who would hide reality behind a veil of ‘sensitivity.’ Grant us the strength to honor the victims of this world with clarity, and keep us from the temptation of trading our integrity for the approval of a misguided culture. Amen.”
